HI, ladies!!
I’m very happy about today’s especially pleasant weather, and I have enough energy to do many house chores after a long time. I wish such a fine climate would continue as long as possible. Cosmos, I can see you and Waka chan have an enjoyable walk in the beautiful park.
Have you ever heard about a TV talent group Shuchi-shin? My kids and I are big fan of them, who are becoming increasingly popular due to a TV quiz program. At first, three of them are called idiot talents, obaka tarento, because they couldn’t have any good answers on the program. But recently, thanks to their freshness and dedication, they have gradually drawn the viewers’ attention.
The other day, I read about an article of a famous writer on the newspaper, saying that foolish TV program would make children also fool. But I don’t think so. Why they can get so big popularity especially from kids and students is a ground-braking situation, in which those who make poor marks in their studies earnestly approach their works with support from adults. (In addition to this, all of them are good-looking men, ikemen…)
The MC on the program, also a producer of them, is Shinsuke Shimada, and I’m a little bit tired of his attitude to making money. Still, I can appreciate his idea about so-called idiot.
Thank you for reading. See you later. Bye, bye, dear friends!

Hi, everyone.
Cherry, from your comment, I can feel your jovial house ambience produced by your daughters.
I don't know the newly established Red Wave Society very much. However, I am a person who profoundly pay respects and express gratitude to the society which talks big for women.
Hi, friends,
Among the recent TV programs, I like Kem-min-Show. In this show,
an acor, a comedian, a singer and so on introduces local product, food or customs where he or she is from. For example, they eat sembei in a pot dish in one prefecture. In one prefecture, they eat plants which we recognize as weeds. For them it is natural to do that. They say, "I don't know you don't do this." Me, either don't know they do such and such.
By the way, my son likes watching TV. He wants to turn the TV on even when studying. I have failed in decipline. How can I stop his ill behavior? I don't want to argue with him.
Hello, Cherry and my precious friends.
I'm now reading Doubling Expectations:
Motherhood and Women’s Factory Work Under State Management in Japan in the 1930 and 1940s.
It's worth reading. I tried to summarize the first half of the essay.
The family system is the basis for the ideology of Japanese nationalism. In short, Imperial Japan would exist forever as long as her family system continued.
However, the widespread draft of men for war effort and the migration of labor from the villages had accelerated the loosening of the family system throughout the 1930s. So the Government had to work eagerly to preserve and revitalize a family system on the wane.
Government took action to shift from a father–centered family ideology to a mother–centered family-state ideology.
In this way motherhood was used as a means of revitalize the family system. Motherhood during the war was for the interest of the state.
Neighborhood association was created following the 1938 National Mobilization Law, which controled resources both human and material in order to make efficient use of them.
Greater Japan Women’s Association was made in 1942. Women’s role was to preserve the family system and it was a crucial analogue to the male role of soldier.
The Mother-Child Protection Law established in 1937 was the first maternal protection law in Japan.
The National Eugenics Law was promulgated in 1941 aiming to sterilize those identified as having hereditary diseases, and to prohibit birth control for the healthy.
The Outline for establishing Population Growth Policy issued in 1942 stressed the urgent importance of increasing the quality of the population in the name of the imperial mission.
To maintain and revitalize the family system, it was crucial to eliminate unsound thoughts. The peace Preservation Law issued in 1925 tightened censorship over anti-social liberal and communist thought.
Thus Governent maintained its full hegemony, making repressive policies to restructure the family system.
Dear Cherry and friends,
Good evening, ladies!
My nieces like Shuchi-shin, too. They recently got Post-It featuring them. This has cartoon characters from which I can't recognize whether they are good-looking guys or not. I rarely watch popular commercial channels. My family watch NHK channels. We always watch TV while eating and hardly converse. The 8-year-old niece was telling us she was going to dance to the tune called “shuchi-shin” on their school's field day in May. I guessed this song had something to do with the group. Although she was singing a part of it, I can't tell what the original tune sounds like.

Today, I read about the first half of the period of retarded growth of Christianity in Japan.
It was from 1889 to around 1897. On February11, 1889, the new Constitution was promulgated. Although it guaranteed freedom of religious belief, anti-Christianity or reactionary movements occurred and threatened Christians. Unfortunately for foreign missionaries who were working at Doshisha, Dr. Joseph Neesima passed away in 1890. His death later weakened the tie between the university and the American Board.
In October of the same year, the Emperor sent forth “The Imperial Rescript on Education.”
Every student as a subject of the country had to read it on national holidays and follow the order written in it.
Some Japanese Christians could not reconcile with patriotism because they believed in only God and could not worship the Emperor. Foreign missionaries would have never fully understood filial piety.
In this period, political problems were often raised and discussed among people. one of the social reform movements of which Christians took the leadership was the abolition of licensed prostitutions. Brothel-keepers often disturbed the movement. While missionaries pursued the way nonsectarian services and conventions possibly ministered, it was argued among Japanese Christians that Christianity could be Japanized as Buddhism was customized. Foreign missionary societies began to consider withdrawing financial support from Japan mission. They saw Japanese Christians can manage by themselves without their help. On the other hand, Japanese Christians saw the money paid for foreign missionaries should be rendered to their own mission. They gradually became reluctant to accept missionaries' patronage.

Talk to you later.
I am happy because it is getting cooler these days.
Sunflower mentioned about “the family system” under the nationalism. I understood how the family system had been made use of in order to make up a strong military government. Even though, I don’t think “a family oriented society” should be blamed.
It is nice to have a good healthy family, isn’t it? An individual, of course, should be respected. But also human ties including families and neighbors are very important, if they are maintained without any wrong intentions. Once a murder happened with a knife, many people attributed the crime to a knife. Some parents sometimes don’t allow their children to use a knife. It is nonsense. It is more important how to use a knife, which is very convenient useful tool. In the same meaning, having a good family is a happiness and we should never allow it be controlled as a system. But to our sadness, we, common citizen, tend to follow a strong new trend and power.

Hello, Cherry and my precious friends.
I'm feeling rather cool in the day time. I had a very shcoking news today. For two consecutive days I happed to meet the last insects I'd like to meet in the kitchen. Yes, they are cockroached in the kichen and a bathroom. I hate them. So I began to clean the kitchen and under the sink. I also brought various kinds of cockroach traps, putting them various places beside the fridge, cupboards, and under the sink in my tiny kitchen . No more nasty insects!

Today I challenged to summarize the last half of Miyake's essay.
Japanese government assigned women to reproductive roles for the primary purpose of revitalizing the family system. However, at the time of war when women’s labor was desperately needed, women were treated as draft labor to be organized in munitions factories.
These two roles of women as mothers and female workforce to solve the labor shortage had the same origin.
The states glorified motherhood to maintain the family system but failed to utilize women’s labor effectively in armaments production. In short, exploiting unskilled labor resulted in the inefficiency of production.
The state hesitated to mobilize women for war work because it feared that the family system might be threatened by the incompatibility of women’s reproductive roles and their working life.
However, after Japan entered into the Pacific War in 1941, young single women were finally mobilized in late 1944. Next the increasing number of married women were drawn in the work force to supply family income due to the spiraling inflation afflicted by the wartime economy.
In this way production became increasingly dependent on women workers. However, government made little efforts to provide job training to women, create work environment appropriate for women or raise wage levels under the slogan of “Labor in the Service of the State”. The result was the abuse of women in the workplace.
Tanino Setsu, the first woman factory inspector in Japan summarized her surveys between 1930 and 1944.
1. In 1935 females made up 36 percent of the total population working in manufacturing, followed by 39.3 percent in 1940 and 41.8 percent in 1944.
2. In the capitalistic society, employers exploited women to reduce the wages down. Ironically, the wage differential was increased according to the hours of working.
Japanese entrepreneurs used women workers as disposable hands.
Women were motivated to work out of the patriotism in the 1930s and 40s.
As mentioned above, the glorification of motherhood and the victimization of female factory workers were two sides of the same coin.
See you tomorrow, my friends.
