The graduation ceremony

HI, ladies!!
How have you been enjoying these consecutive holidays?

Two days ago my husband and I attended the graduation ceremony at the elementary school, because our elder daughter was a graduate. That day was so nice and warm and we had a wonderful time.

First of all, the graduates were given the certificate from the principal one by one at the gymnasium. There were a lot of students and the atmosphere of the ceremony was so solemn that I almost fell asleep. Then, children sang several songs for graduation and made a speech, sometimes all together, sometimes one after another. I didn’t expect them to become so grown-up and tears gushed from my eyes at their fresh, beautiful and respectable appearance.

After that I was impressed by the address of the principal, teaching a story of kiseki no ringo. The story was about a man who had long struggled with apple farming without pesticides, which went beyond common sense in the farm world. But finally he made a big success in his business with unusually natural apple fields, in which a lot of insects and weeds grew.

The principal told us that as well as those apple trees, we couldn’t live healthier without great nature, and that we adults should watch over children, just like apples, fondly.

After the graduation party, my daughter fully enjoyed playing with her friends at the neighbor playground, and got back home at 6 o’clock. She was very satisfied but seemed sad. It was a new start in her life.

So, have nice holidays. Bye for now…

Hi, ladies!!!
It’s Saturday, March 21, 2009 today.

I went to the shoe shop where I bought a pair of shoes two weeks ago, to ask it to change them for shoes in a smaller size. Fortunately I still have got a receipt and there was no problem about exchanging of shoes, but a pair of shoes in my size was not in the shop at the moment, and I was told that the shop would send them to me by post soon after it got them from the show maker. What a relief!!! Do you have a similar experience, my dear friends? It is hard to choose shoes that perfectly fit our feet, isn’t it?

There was a Hokkaido specialty fair going on at the shopping complex. No sooner had my husband seen a big sign of soft ice cream cone than he said that he would like to get one and asked me whether or not I wanted one. Soft ice cream corn from Hokkaido was tremendously tempting to me and so hard for me to resist. But I said NO.

I have been on a diet since I came back from Sydney. (While I was there, I gained a few kilograms. Alas, alas, alas…)

He got one and later he remarked that he should not have had it. He is obese and his doctor strongly suggested that he should lose at least 20 kilograms otherwise he would have a serious health problem. He often ignores his doctor’s medical advice and eats whatever he wants to eat. That’s the way he is.

But today I don’t know what happened to him, but he regretted that he had had soft ice cream cone. Oh, it’s so strange of him…

This is a new quiz for you and me. It is very easy because this piece of news often appears in the Japanese media and it must be fairly familiar to you. Familiarity is sort of a key to choosing correct articles in this quiz.

The article is from the BBC English Learning and the answers are listed below.

US bonus tax
After (1) shouts of rage from (2) Congress, this was (3) vote that reflected (4) public anger over (5) AIG bonuses. Eighty-five House Republicans joined with Democrats to approve (6) 90% tax on bonuses awarded to high-earning employees from bailed out companies.

This was despite (7) opposition from Republican leaders, who argued that (8) measure was intended to divert attention away from questions about the administration's handling of (9) affair.

The tax, which (10) Senate will now consider, would apply to anyone earning more than $250,000 and firms receiving over $5bn of public money.

Hi, ladies!!!

It’s Sunday, March 22, 2009 today. It has been raining all day, and it’s hard to tell whether it has been warm or chilly. I felt it was a bit chilly especially in the morning whereas my husband kept saying it was hot. Anyway it’s early spring, and the temperature and weather of early spring is always hard to identify, I suppose.

Have you ever seen a strange & funny-looking Japanese female robot in the recent news? Oh, yuck, isn’t it? The face is too childish and the robot looks like a five-year old. I don’t understand why Japanese scientists created such a baby-faced cyber-doll. Perhaps, the robot reflects the Japanese men’s taste for women… Alas, alas, alas…

This is a new quiz for you and me. Of course, the news subject is the robot, and I hope you enjoy reading it. It is an extremely short piece of news. Very easy quiz!!! The article is from the BBC, and the answers are listed below.

Life-like walking female robot

(1) Japanese scientists have unveiled (2) female humanoid walking robot at (3) Tsukuba City, north east of Tokyo.
(4) Robot, named HRP-4C, has 30 motors in its body that allow it to walk and move its arms as well as eight motors on its face to create (5) expressions like (6) anger and (7) surprise.
She will also make (8) special appearance in (9) Tokyo fashion show and will go on (10) sale for around $200,000 (£142,000).

Dear Cherry and friends,

Hello.
I feel spring have come. It is raining, now. A rainy day is a perfect day for staying at home.

I have been reading about the Reformation.

I wondered how Henry VIII estranged from the Roman Catholic Church. His infamous affair with Ann Boleyn and attempt to marry her seemingly triggered the alienation of the English Church from the Catholic Church, yet things are more complicated. At least until 1521, he was a papalist. When Luther questioned about indulgences, Henry wrote a book to accuse Luther and was admired by the Pope. By 1531, he came to believe his first marriage was wrong.

Curiously enough, both his first wife, Catherine of Aragon and second wife, Ann Boleyn, demised in the same year. While Catherine died of cancer, Ann was beheaded.

Let me review what happened between 1521 and 1533.
In the beginning of the 1520s, Henry was unhappy because Catherine of Aragon did not bear a boy, and wanted a male heir. He believed that his marriage to Catherine was wrong because she was his brother’s wife. Although he petitioned Pope Clement VII to annul the marriage, his wish was rejected.

Henry asked Cardinal Wolsey to mediate him and the Pope but Wolsey failed to change the situation. In 1529, as soon as setting up the Reformation Parliament, Henry removed Wolsey and invited Thomas More as Lord Chancellor. However, Thomas More, who could not accept the annulment of marriage, resigned from public office.

Meanwhile, Catherine of Aragon was forced to resign the court in 1532. Next year, Thomas Cranmer declared that the marriage between Henry and Catherine illegal.

I will write about the next 3 years later.
Good night.

Hello, Cherry and my dear friends.

I always challenge article tests Plum posts every day, hoping to get 100 percent of correct answers but on the contrary I made a lot of mistakes. For example, I wasn’t aware that we say “with
close attention” and “go on sale” —“a” is not necessary.
It’s a very good exercise for me before going to bed.

Today’s topic was especially interesting. Although I noticed the news that Japan produced a female face robot a couple of days ago, I paid no attention to her childish average face. Anyway I like the comment Plum made.

Last Saturday my husband and my youngest daughter, Kyoko went to see Taiga with Yoshio and his wife, Yuko after eating lunch of deep-fried pork at Rakuichi-rakuza, a restaurant of Katsu and Ebi. Taiga weighs 3.4 kg and his face seems to get much bigger, with his mouth twice as big as 50 days ago. I heard that he got a high fever a few days ago because of inflammation of the intestines. It was so pity to see him being put on an intravenous drip on the right hand. Every weekends Yoshio visited Taiga and stayed for five or six hours with his wife although she payed a visit every day. They really want to bring him back home as soon as possible.

Today is Sunday and it has been raining all day long. I got up at five in the morning to drive my husband to Odaka station on JR because he had to travel to Kagawa prefecture to attend the 33th anniversary of his grandfather.

I felt so sleepy during the day that I took a nap for several hours after fixing lunch, which made me refreshed and reinvigorated.

Now I have to go to bed. Good-night, my sweet friedns.

Hi, ladies

Today, or yesterday I should say because it's early morning of March 23 now, was a windy and rainy day. It symbolized my feeling, rough and irritated.
Mac annoyed me again. I wasted all day to try to find how to get a macron on letters like U and O with my computer. Mac does not have such specific letters in its chart, "specific letters and signs." Although Alice taught Violet and me how to assign short-cut keys to these specific letters at the essay discussion meeting, it did not apply to my Mac. So I had no way of submitting the essay without macrons.

Plum was kindly enough to share her time and instructed how to get letters with macron by e-mail today/yesterday. However, something seems to be wrong with my nasty Mac that had often mede me crazy. Maybe I should take Plum's advice and call the service center of Microsoft tomorrow. Sigh,I should talk with an alien.

This is all about what I did and felt today/yesterday.
Good luck to your PCs!
