The WBC

Hi, ladies!!

I was a bit surprised by the comment Plum made yesterday about the world baseball classic, because I felt as if you had no great interest in those issues. I was also impressed by the game yesterday. In fact, my husband and I are lovers of the professional baseball, and so had had a lot of discussion about the WBC for the duration of this event. All players were trying to win the game and get championship, but we wonder why the team of Japan must fight against one of Korea five times. The quality of Japan’s baseball was so high that I wanted to watch Japan beat other countries as well. Anyway, I like the name samurai Japan. As Peach mentioned, Ichiro is the embodiment of samurai spirit, isn’t he?

Well, see you again. Bye!

Hi, ladies!!!
It’s Wednesday, March 25, 2009 today. It was occasionally sunny and windy but most of the time it was cloudy during the day in my area. How about the weather in your area?

In my garden at the moment very beautiful magnolia flowers are in full bloom, and I really want to show you this gorgeous sight. I have just one magnolia tree (I almost cut it down several years ago since it did not have any flowers), and this tree now has thousand of flowers (yes, I am a bit exaggerating). I have never seen such a delightful view in my garden.

Until several days ago, my garden was full of the fascinating fragrance of winter daphne. As the fragrance was disappearing, magnolia flowers started to open. What a fabulous timing!!!

I expect the dogwood in my garden will be full of white flowers someday in the very near future. White dogwood flower petals are so pretty and dainty, and I cannot imagine anything that is prettier and daintier than them.

This is a new quiz for you and me. It has nothing to do with plants or flowers but Japan’s exports. The business article is from the BBC, and the topic is a bit gloomy, but I hope you can get 100%.

Japan's February exports halved

The latest economic figures from Japan show exports in February were down by (1) record 49.4% compared with the same month a year earlier.

The world's second largest economy is suffering badly in (2) downturn as (3) demand for its products has collapsed.

The new data follows (4) figures for January which showed year on year exports nearly halved that month too.

Exports are important for Japan, so (5) global downturn is affecting the country particularly badly.

It was a new record after (6) fall of 45.7% in January.

Demand for Japanese products is collapsing around the world as fearful consumers cut back.

(7) Exports of cars were down by more than 70%.

But Japan's trade balance was in surplus in February after (8) record deficit in January, because the decline in exports was offset by (9) sharp fall in imports.

Japan's economy shrank by (10) annualized 12.1% in the last three months of 2008, the biggest contraction among developed countries.

The government is working on a third stimulus package which local media reports have estimated will be worth 20 trillion yen ($200bn, £136bn).

Hi, ladies!!!

It’s Thursday, March 25, 2009 today. It was cold during the day, but less cold than I expected, and so it was good.

Several days ago, perhaps, I read a message describing Cherry’s daughter graduating from elementary school. I always wanted to congratulate your daughter’s graduation, Cherry. Congratulations!!! Sorry about my delay.

It must have been a moving moment that you saw your daughter leaving elementary school. In April she will enter junior high school, and she has to wear a school uniform, doesn’t she?

Have you already got a uniform for her? My daughter was an extremely quite girl at home and school, but since the day she entered junior high she has been very talkative. I don’t know what happened to her on the day, but she was transformed into a tremendously cheerful, active and talkative girl. (Surprise, surprise, surprise…)

One more interesting thing that happened to her after entering junior high is that she got double eyelids. (One morning, she woke up and saw herself in the mirror, and then she realized she had got double eyelids.) Very uncanny and weird, isn’t it?

This morning my dishwasher broke down. Since I have a little problem with my hands and cannot wash dishes, even pots and pans, with my hands, I need a new dishwasher as quickly as possible. The kitchen shop man from whom I bought a gas cooker a few years ago came around almost one hour ago and remarked that he could install a new one, perhaps, on Saturday. (What a relief!!!)

This is a new quiz for you and me. The article is from the BBC and the answers are listed below.

Enjoy the quiz before going to bed. Goodnight, my lovely friends…

Therapists offer gay 'treatment'

Therapists are still offering treatments for homosexuality despite there being no evidence that such methods work, research suggests.

(1) Significant minority of mental health professionals had agreed to help at least one patient "reduce" their gay or lesbian feelings when asked to do so.

(2) Survey, published in (3) journal BMC Psychiatry and conducted by London researchers, involved 1,400 therapists.

Many were acting with the "best of intentions", said (4) lead author.

Only 4% said they would attempt to change (5) client's sexual orientation, but when asked if they would help curb homosexual feelings some 17% - or one in six - said they had done so.

The incidence appeared to be as prevalent in recent years as decades earlier.

"Of course it's incumbent on (6) professional to assist (7) client who wants help, but this should be done using evidence-based therapies - exploring their distress and helping them to adjust to their situation," said Professor Michael King of University College London.

"We know now that (8) efforts to change people's sexual orientation result in very little change and can cause (9) immense harm.

"We found it very worrying that there was a significant minority who appeared to ignore this - even if they had all (10) right intentions.

Hi, ladies!!!

It is Thursday, March 26, 2009 today. It was mostly cloudy occasionally sunny. Temperature was lower than usual year. Today I went to an elementary school to support the kids. There we did a game called 'who has it'. It(oni) points out who had a tiny block in his or her hand. Kids are arranged in line with their hands back. They are closly arranged so that it cannot see to whom the block is passed. They were so involved in the game. I was happy to see their happy smile.

Thank you for reading. I'll write again soon.

Hi, ladies!
We had a good time with Jonathan, today. It was a surprise for us that he has been in Nagoya now. He always talked about “Change” before but we found he hasn’t changed from what he was in Japan. Nice person!
Well, Plum always recommend us to write about the topic of our essay. I should have written about Masako Ogawa, the heroine of my essay more. She died at age of 41 and her career as a doctor was very short, only seven years. Even though her short career, she was a female doctor in the lime light just before she died. What made her so notable? She was a dedicated doctor for lepers but what made her famous was her book, a kind of documentary of a journey to look for hidden lepers living in local areas. Tomorrow I will write about the problems of my argument about Masako Ogawa. See you, soon, my precious friends. Bye!

Hello, Cherry and my friends.

I’m sorry to hear troubles you experienced with your Mac. PC sometime made us irritated, confused, and bewildered. My printer, unfortunately, would not work at all, just
indicating “error” on the screen.

There is no way about it. But I have to get it worked sooner.

Hi, ladies!!!

It’s Friday, March 25, 2009 today. It has been quite chilly since the early morning. (I got up at around 6:30, although I did not have to get up so early.)

Yesterday when we met Jonathan, he kept asking about the purpose of our essay writing and suggested that we should choose younger generations for our topics instead of choosing women who were ambitious and active more than ten decades ago.

I answered him, explaining that written materials and references about older generations are much easier to gather, but he did not seem to be convinced.

Cosmos who was sitting next to me, on the other hand, suddenly began to whisper to me that her group members including herself started to write an essay before analyzing the various information they gathered for their essay writing this time and that they had to get together next time to discuss how to analyze the group members’ knowledge and information and compose their subjects before writing essays. She nodded many times when she was whispering to me as if she was convincing herself.

Anyway yesterday’s lunch with Jonathan and some of our members was significantly exciting and intriguing to me.

This is a new quiz for you and me. I still don’t know what is going to happen when North Korea launches an alleged satellite, and I am sure neither do you. North Korea should try to understand how to solve their problems with other countries including Japan from the global point of view. I suppose Kim Jong-il is one of the most egoistic and stupid human individuals in the world.

Please enjoy the quiz, my lovely friends.

Japan to 'destroy' N Korea rocket

Japan has announced it is deploying missile interceptors to destroy any parts of a North Korean rocket that might fall on its territory.

North Korea has said it will put (1) satellite into orbit next month.
But South Korea, Japan and the US believe (2) launch will be (3) new test of (4) North Korean Taepodong-2 long-range ballistic missile.

The US has said (5) rocket launch would be "provocative" and violate UN Security Council resolutions.

Japan's Defence Minister Yasukazu Hamada issued (6) orders to mobilise Japan's missile defence shield after (7) meeting with Prime Minister Taro Aso and cabinet ministers.

"We will do our best to handle any flying object from North Korea in order to assure the Japanese people's safety and security," said Mr Hamada.

"A satellite or a missile - we are displeased with anything that is going to fly over our land, and such (8) action must be stopped."
It is the first time that (9) constitutionally pacifist Japan has deployed (10) shield.
