Summer moved on

Good afternoon, ladies!
I haven’t seen you for such a looooong time!
I’m happy to read your comments.

I have long been scared of the writing on the Blog during this summer, and couldn't concentrate my attention on learning English... Frankly, I was tired with housework and arrangements for my daughter’s club activities. But now kids are gone at last…. From now on, I will start an engine.

So, see you next. Good, good bye!

Hi, ladies!!!

Summer is almost over, isn’t it?
How have you been, ladies?

Unfortunately I caught a terrible cold early last week, although I normally seldom catch a cold in summer.

I still cough a lot and thus I might have contracted pneumonia. (I easily develop pneumonia, which, strangely enough, cures without any antibiotic treatment.)

Of course, I received swine flue testing and the result was negative, so my illness is just a cold. Good gracious!!!

Hope all of you are well and fine.

Sweet dreams, my lovely friends.

Hello, Cherry and my precious friends.

An increasing number of people are falling seriously ill with the H1N1 influenza.
The rapid spread of the diseases nationwide made me anxious of additional number of patients.

I feel sorry to hear that Plum took a cold. I hope she will recover soon.

Please take care of yourself,Plum.

Good-night, my dear friends.

Dear Cherry

Welcome back!
My sister had been busy taking care of her kids. Kids are busy these days. So I thought you had been busy, too.

The template of the blog is pretty.
Looks like a fresh start.

Dear Cherry and friends,

Hello, everybody. Happy Friday!
I got a call from Cosmos several hours ago. Thank you for calling me and coordinating everything for us, Cosmos.

I checked all the e-mail since October 2003 (oh, my! The computer is this much old.)
Why did I check them? To find when we met Jonathan for the first time.

The earliest information about him was Sunflower's message, which told us about a meeting she arranged. It was obviously the second or third meeting. So, our first meeting was no later than September 2003. Wait! Let me check my diary.
It seems that the first meeting with Jonathan was held on June 25th. My diary says, "We had a guest. He's Jonathan N..." I wrote this part in English. Since only distinguished events were noted on my diary, perhaps, this one was the first meeting.

By the way, the second meeting was on July 9th. We had a tutorial session in the morning. In the afternoon, we had a meeting with Jonathan. On that evening, I went to Shizuoka to listen to a lecture on teaching English by Dr. Jennifer Jenkins. My journal entry of that day, which was written in Japanese, says, "I gave a presentation (in the morning.) Plum commended the content of the presentation. (Here, this logical connection is very important. I was implying "therefore") I will study harder. (もっとがんばろー。) Come to think of it, I traveled an enormous distance."

I think I should stop reading my journal, now.

Now, I'll edit our history. I have concluded that the first meeting was June 25, 2004.
Oh, if your schedule finds earlier records about meetings with Jonathan, please let me know.

Although I told you that I was going to write about dissenters, I have changed my mind. Maybe next time.

Good night.

Hello, Cherry and my precious friends.

It’s a fine and hot day. How are you feeling today?
I’ve been in good physical condition. I try to wash my hands thoroughly.

Alice, thank you for your time and efforts for the compilation of our history.

My old diaries should have been remained so that I could trace back my memories, records and happenings.

By the way, I’m eager to introduce “NHK World” in English to you. I’m a fan of NHK world. I can view it at any time on the website because it is an 24-hour English language news channel.

It’s very easy to access to it. Just put “NHK World” in a searching engine.
Be careful that the news programs on NHK world could be only viewed on the website, and are not broadcasted on TV.

Each news article is short and compact. We could know how NHK world try hard to transmit information from Japan to the rest of the world.

You could enjoy non-news programs such as interviews with Japanese politician or economists whose English is excellent.

Seeing is to believing. Please, please access to NHK World.

Have a nice evening.

Let me correct my last comment. In the second last paragraph, I wrote 2004. It's wrong. It should be 2003.

Dear Sunflower

Hi!
Thank you for the information about NHK WORLD English. I checked the site.
http://www.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/

Right now, it is showing, "Please wait for the next program."
So, I saw a video from the yesterday's programs.
This service is convenient when we want to check NHK's news coverage.

Dear Cherry and friends:

Hello! How is everybody?
I'm great. At last, I got a galley proof from an editor of the journal I've mentioned here.

I have been working on the paper for several months. I rewrote it four times. The first version and the last one are completely different although I didn't change my conclusion very much.
All I have to do now is to omit minor mistakes.

I wrote about housewives who used to work at companies as regular workers. Since my motivation came from the first essay I wrote for Essays 2005, I included it into the bibliography.

Talk to you soon.

Hello, Cherry and my precious friends.

It’s Saturday. It's still very hot today.

I changed from B-flets on NTT to “Commufa” as a communication fee is nearly 2,000 Yen profitable for me compared with that of NTT.

I also plan to get a Hikari Telephone, fiber-optic communications, installed due to saving cost.

I’m expecting to talk with friends of mine in Kumamoto through the Hikari Tel. No more necessary to worry about a telephone bill!

Actually, I watched "The sport of Garbage picking' on NHK WORLD. It's the news about Aichi prefecture.

It will be fine tomorrow. I'm planning to go hiking to Matsudaira Go(松平郷) and go hot spring, which seems to be the best refreshment for me for the time being.

Have a good day!

Hi Cherry and precious friends,

It has been very hot during daytime again, though it’s getting cooler and more comfortable in the morning and evening.
Cherry, are you feeling better these days? I hope you have recovered completely now. And it was good to know that you caught a just regular cold, not the new influenza.

The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare has just released the top seven priorities in the vaccination program against the new influenza. The ministry has been discussing to determine who should be inoculated first because of the shortage of anti- flu vaccines.

According to the government plan, the group to be given vaccination first will be medical workers. The next will be pregnant women, and then people with chronic disease, such as asthma or diabetes, then infant and toddlers, parents with babies younger 6 months old, and next will be students at elementary, junior and senior high schools and the last will be people aged 65 and older. We are not included in this priority list, aren’t we?

The ministry is planning to begin the vaccination at the end of October. But it is said that the domestic drug makers only be able to supply one third of people of the ministry’s priority lists. In order to make up the shortage, the ministry must make arrangement to import vaccines.

Only we can do for ourselves is to be careful not to catch the new flu by washing hands, gargling or wearing masks. I really hope we can enjoy the nice weather in autumn without fear of the further spread of the new flu.

Have a nice day!

Hello, Cherry and my precious friends.

It is autumn of fruitful harvest. In the countryside in Matsudaira, rice fields were colored with gold. It’s gorgeous to view rice ears are standing in golden waves. In some of the paddies harvesting has already begun. I could see dragonflies and grasshoppers in the fields and frogs and killfish in the swap land.

It's marvellous and refreshing to recognize original landscaqpe of Japan.

Hello, ladies!
It has been still pretty hot in daylight even these days. I am very vulnerable to summer heat and I am waiting for a cool season. Actually I have no energy to do something on hot days. As a result I have now surrounded with a lot of things of “MUST”.
Well, I hope you have recovered from summer cold now, Plum. Maybe you have been too busy this summer. Please take a good rest and sound sleep, in addition, delicious food!
I think those are great panaceas.
Thank you for recording NWSRG’s history, Alice. We are very happy to have an excellent IT expert like you among our group.
Now let me tell about myself a little bit. I usually go to pool once or twice a week these days and have several close swimming mates there. Our coach recommends us to attend a kind of a swimming festival, “ Megalos Masters” held in Chiba in November. My pool-mates have showed their intention to participate in it. I am now encouraged to join them. “To go or not to go is the question “for me. Why? Because I saw the people who decided to go are taking a lot of time to swim so enthusiastically. I am now shilly-shallying. Thank you for reading my empty chatting.
See you again, my precious friends!

Hello, Cherry and my precious friends.

Do you like “Cadbury chocolate”?

I’ve learned John Cadbury was one of the best employers with philanthropic ambitions in England.

Actually I’ve started to attend Mickel’s class in which he gave a lecture about legal children’s labor in the Victorian period.

I heard "Mr. Cadbury" whose chocolate factory was built in Birmingham to manufacture cocoa and drinking chocolate.

He provided a better life for their workers.

How I wish to eat “Cadbury chocolate”!

Good night, my precious friends.

Dear Cherry and friends

Hello. How are you?
I have just come back from Chiba, the seminar.
As usual, I was inspired by the people who got together. To my surprise, seven people canceled at the last minute. We are all sure that they did not attend because they had not finished working on their presentations. We understand their feeling. We are all afraid of the teacher's harsh comments. But for me it is a rare chance to get insightful comments from not only the teacher but also other students. Some students are writing a doctoral thesis. Their comments are almost equivalent to teachers. I met a woman who is publishing her doctoral thesis soon. She was awarded a degree last year. She told us that she wrote 600 A4 size pages and had to reduce it by third.

Now, do you remember the word, dissenter? Dissenters are not always involved in religious movements. Some dissented the government politically.

I told you I was writing about dissenters the other day.
Let me explain four dissenters today.
- Quakers … This is a religious movement started around the seventeenth century. One of the important figures who founded this society is George Fox (1624-1691). They are also known as Friends. Their style of worship is very simple. As a religious society, it is a nonconformist.
- Levellers .... They are political dissenters. They hoped for a society where people are equal. They insisted that every adult male should have a vote. They expected social change.
- Diggers …. Diggers and levellers had the same aim but took different measures. Literally, diggers are those who dig the ground. They thought about making communes and shrewdly realized them. Their motto was that people should dig their own land by themselves. They insisted on the abolition of private property. Such an idea is regarded as the pioneer of socialist theories. It might destroy the aristocratic system and alter the economic structure.
- Ranters … To rant is a verb, as you know. Their preaching was noisy. They are considered as Primitive Methodists. In the seventeen century, they said, "Look at our society today and think the beginning of the world." They thought about a society of equality. They emphasized that there had been no institution of marriage. Their life was like modern hippies.

Let's stop here today.
Talk to you tomorrow.
Take care.

Dear Cherry and friends

Good evening!
How are you?
Let me explain about four more groups of dissenters, today.

- Adamites …. Look at the first four letters, Adam. Yes, it is the name of first human being in the Bible. Adamites believed that people should be naked. They therefore lived naked.
- The Fifth Monarchy Man … This group’s idea was similar to Leon Trotsky’s idea. Trotsky insisted that revolution should spread throughout the world. The Fifth Monarchy Man believed the fifth monarch, that is, a kingdom established by Jesus. The other empires are Syrian, Persian, Macedonian, and Roman.
- Anabaptists … This is a purely religious group. Anabaptists rejected infant baptism. They insisted that baptism is something adults do. Since baptism symbolized the power of priests, rejecting infant baptism meant rejecting priests’ power.
- Puritans … This group is also purely religious. They are obsessed with religious purity. Protector Oliver Cromwell favored this group. Pilgrim Fathers who went to the New World by the Mayflower were Puritans.

There are more dissenters active in the seventeenth century.
Religious dissenters dissented from Anglicanism. Next time, I will write why they did so.
Good night.
