HI, everyone!
Alice, I don’t know how many horrible acts of human beings now exist around the world. It seems that many of those arise from a religious difference. I have no idea about Islam and Christianity, but some Japanese think these monotheistic religions might cause a lot of historical wars.
Plum, I didn’t know about Mrs. Webb at all, and so it is fantastic to learn such interesting story.
It’s the last day of January today. When I think of the start of the next month, I am relieved because I quit my job yesterday. At the beginning of this year, I had considered about the order of priority in my life. One person said that it is important in deciding something new that we have to end something valuable instead. I really understood the priority and decided to quit. Now I’d like to do reading, listening, writing and speaking English as much as I can. My resources are time.
So, see you tomorrow. Bye!

Great experiences
Hi, everyone!
I’m impressed with your great experiences on your child rearing. I think it’s sure that your deep love had been understood by your children. Anyway, doing mother is a hard training for us, isn’t it?
Now it’s time to watch my favorite TV drama. I think I will be able to have more time to think and write deeply from tomorrow. More of this story will be told next. Good night!

A horrible scene
Hi, everyone!
Plum, from what I have heard from you about the DVD, it seems an exciting adventure story. In my opinion, you like detective stories, don’t you. I wonder whether you also like Sherlock Holmes. England could produce great detective stories, such as of Conan Doyle and Agatha Christie. I used to enjoy their wonderful works, in Japanese, in my young girlhood.
This afternoon, I went to my kids’ school to see class, where I happened to witness a horrible scene. After the class finished, a lot of mothers were passing along a school passage, chatting friendly. Just then there were a parent and child at the corner of the passage, standing in somehow a tense atmosphere. Suddenly, mother slapped her son on his cheek in spite of the presence of us, scolding severely, and saying ‘why didn’t you say so!?’ or something. I watched him slapped at least twice, and of course, many of his friends also saw that miserable scene. Even if she intended to discipline her son, I couldn’t understand her harsh way of doing at all. I just hope she did so because of wishing for the happiness of her son, and above all, he could have a right understanding of her treatment.
I’m sorry for my sad story. See you tomorrow. Bye!

The Victorian age
Hi, everyone!
Plum, I’m happy to hear your good idea of watching DVD written by Charles Dickens. It seems really substantial material and I’d like to watch it with you. I am looking forward to learning all about the Victorian age from you.
So, see you soon, good bye.

The talented person
Hi, everyone!
I enjoyed reading every message yesterday as usual. Thanks to this Blog, I can know your acts and thoughts everyday, and learn a lot of expressions in English. As Plum introduced, there was a chance to find the talented person whom I didn’t know. I, too, would like to be a person whose dream comes true in the future.
By the way, I have read the article about Akiko Yosano, which was given from Plum the other day, several times. I was really interested in her life full of ups and downs. Needless to say, she is one of the most talented and successful women in Japan, and I want to know about her more. I wonder why I couldn’t meet them earlier in my life.
So, see you tomorrow. Good night.

A microchip
Hi, everyone!
Plum, I enjoyed reading your comment about Jonathan’s meeting. It seems that he always presents a little bit hard but intriguing subjects, and that all of you could have a good time. I’ve once heard that several rich persons in some South American country implanted a microchip in their children’s body to defend them against a kidnapper. It’s a terrifying story, isn’t it? Such system may be useful for some people who must be protected, on the other hand, may be misuse for a state power.

Full moon
Hi, everyone!
Alice, I didn’t notice the full moon last night. I also like such clear moon in winter because of its great brilliance.
Alice, I, too, use Co-op every week and I like original menu.( I love umebishio, or sweetened ume paste) I’d like to eat daikon mochi someday.
So, see you next. Have a good weekend.

Strong wind
Hi, everyone!
It has been a dreadful weather today, hasn’t it?! When I was walking a street on the way home this afternoon, I saw a big signboard blew away on the strong wind. How terrific!
It is about the season for the flu, and yesterday, my kids’ school had a temporary suspension of classes for the first time in this season. I just hope all of us will stay healthy.
So, please take care, see you tomorrow!

About accountability
HI, everyone!
Alice, there are serious problems about accountability in our society these days. I wonder why so many big companies couldn’t explain the cause of their failure honestly. We now found that it might be a mistake to trust them. As far as a product is concerned, we can shrug it off, but we have no choice in our kids’ education. It seems natural for your friend to be serious about it. Still, we can’t give up such conditions yet.

A terrible mistake
Hi, everyone!
Plum, I thank you for your comment about dichotomy. I just found that it is one of the effective methods to attract readers, but as you said, I don’t have enough time to write my essay. I will concentrate my mind on my work.
On my work, I made a terrible mistake today. I usually use some PC to take reservations for meeting rooms on the phone. While answering a call, I have to type a customer’s name and address at once. So, I have no time to make a note of that information. This morning, after finished the call, I had more several calls. I backed to the previous screen, when my data suddenly disappeared for some reason. I couldn’t recall it at all… What a fearful experience! After a while, I somehow remembered it, and I realized that I have depended completely on PC. It was a good lesson for me.
So, see you tomorrow. Good night.

About dichotomy
Hi, everyone!
Plum, there is something I’d just like to confirm with you. You taught us dichotomy. For example, does next expression apply to in this case?
As Akiko’s reputation climbed, Tekkan’s fell.
In my case, I will go to write about the condition of women’s suffrage in the Meiji and Taisho era. I wonder how I can use dichotomy in my essay. Political empowerment in Japan and foreign countries? Please teach me.
Alice, your books seems interesting for me, especially Mr.Mogi’s. I like him since I have heard his lecture at Aichi Summer Seminar two years ago. At that time, I was impressed not only with valuable contents of his talk, but also with his warm-hearted character. Despite his clear head, he taught us politely and lovingly. So, I often watch a TV program professional on NHK in order to see him.

The essay
Hi, everyone!
Today we, Azalea, Peach, Sunflower(special guest) and I gathered together at Plum's house to learn about the essay. Her lecture was really excellent as usual, and I could receive a lot of lessons to improve my English. I can't express how happy I am now. I'll do my best untill my essay is finished successfully. Thank you very much.

Favorite dreams
Hi, everyone!
Have you ever heard a Takarachizu?
There is a corkboard on the wall in my PC room. While sitting at a desk and checking my PC, it always comes into my sight. There are some pieces of paper on it, such as a picture of my family, a clipping from a magazine. This is my Takarachizu.
I read a book about it last year, and was stimulated by the idea that a visualization of our dream can actually influence our sub consciousness to realize them. A way of making it is very simple. We have only to put any pictures we want on the corkboard. For example, the place where you want to go, the house you want to live in. Now what I have are the pictures of a glorious sunrise on the Mountain in Hawaii and a beautiful Scandinavian house. Those are my favorite dreams.

Shinto and Christianity
Hi, everybody!
Sunflower, it sounds interesting that Shinto and Christianity are incompatible with each other. After all, when we think about Shinto, we also have to consider the Imperial Family, which may be, a sort of, the untouchable subject in Japan. There are established ranks in our society, in the order the emperor, the family, the head of the family (men), and women. I really wonder whether we can change them in the future.

The 13th anniversary
HI, everyone!
Today is the 13th anniversary of the Hanshin Great Earthquake. Do you prepare the equipment for emergency? I only make a stock of drinking water and emergency toilet. It was 13 years ago when I knew that they are most important for us to survive.
I feel very sad at the thought that we have to stand every hardship in our life. For example, I can’t, no, I don’t want to imagine the grief of people who has lost her/his family on 9.11 attack…
So, I’ll talk to you tomorrow, good bye!

English subtitles
HI, everyone!
Plum, I’m sorry for your correction. There is a decided difference between my expression and your correct one…In fact, it usually takes a long time for me to read a book in English, probably because I try to grasp the meaning of English word from the context in Japanese way. (?) I have to read English text aloud for three hours or more!
This afternoon I watched DVD titled ‘The devil wears Prada,’ depicts a devilishly strict chief editor (Meril Streep) of hi- fashion magazine, with English subtitles. I found it’s convenient to learn English. I wonder if we could see WOWOW with English subtitles.

Eyestrain
HI, everyone!
These days I found that I have to read a lot of books and documents, but when I continue looking at some written texts, I often suffer from eyestrain. We may use our eyes too often because of PC. Come to think of it, there is almost no time to gaze into the distance in my daily life. I must do so consciously in order to keep my eyes healthy.
It must be cold tonight, and please take care. Good night.

The time of IT
HI, everyone!
Last night I read a book, ‘kunio ism’ written by Kuniko Inoguchi, the former Minister of gender equality. I had only known her work as a Minister, who took office at Koizumi’s request in 2005. But when I finished this book, I was impressed with her energetic activities. I was also moved by her HP, which pays attention to detail for visitors. I have never seen a considerate HP in female Diet members. Do you know the only female member of the Lower House who doesn’t have her own HP? She is Makiko Tanaka. It is impossible for me to imagine such condition even in the time of IT.

Gifu city
Hi, everyone!
Today, I went shopping to Gifu city with my family. We walked around a vast shopping mall, which was rather crowded with shoppers. There were so many shops that I couldn’t choose my favorite clothes. We only got some daily goods for kids and had lunch at a Chinese restaurant. Then we went to Gifu-jo, lifting its head on kinkazan. When we arrived there, the ropeway to carry sightseers up to the top of the mountain already ended. So, we just looked up at Gifu-jo from the foot of the mountain, and left for home.
On the way home, I found interesting information on my guidebook of Gifu. It is said that there is a statue of Taisuke Itagaki at Gifu-koen in memory of being attacked by his enemy. I gradually recalled that happening because I have read it on the book ‘warawano hanseigai,’ an autobiography of Hideko Fukuda, the pioneer of women’s liberation movement in Meiji-era. I was surprised that I happened to know it by chance. Unfortunately, I had no time to see that statue this time, but I’d like to come some day. While I read several books about women’s history for my essay, I became feeling interesting with modern Japanese history. It’s fantastic.
Peach, I watched the movie ‘Maiko haaaan!’ at that night, and liked it.

Eager to exercise
Hi, everyone!
Alice, I have an interest in your friend, who has succeed in losing his weight. I wonder what it was made him so eager to exercise.
Magnolia, I also scared of such a political plot. They say what you don’t know won’t hurt you, and I have no idea whether we now are happy or not.
So, I’ll watch a movie, a sort of comedy, from now. I hope you will enjoy this weekend. See you.

New Year resolution
HI, everyone!
Alice, I think your comment about Mr. Umeda’s book is just appropriate one. I will surely recommend this book to the young.
I was also impressed with US presidential campaign. Whether Hillary wins or not, the last candidate of the Democratic Party will be a great sensation for us.
I haven’t gone to excise for a long time, and now I’m sore all over my whole body aches.
I’d like to go to gym regularly, at least twice a week, all year round. It is one of my New Year resolutions.
So, I will go to bed earlier than usual. Good night!

My plan
Hi, everyone!
I am now making my plan at the beginning of year 2008. When I read several useful books about the end of last year, I found that the best and only resource for me to improve my English and other skills is‘time.’ I am just excited about planning my schedule on my notebook, and dreaming it.
I’ll talk to you tomorrow. Good night!

Energetic woman
Hi, everyone!
Alice, I hope you like Mr. Umeda’s new book. I didn’t know Ms. Ishiguro, and I checked some information about her on the Net. I am just surprised to know such energetic woman exists in IT Company as CEO, and moreover, she is sister of your friend!
Sunflower, I’m interested in Japanese superstitious belief. We certainly use different religions for different purposes. It’s unique.
Azalea, I’m sorry to hear that you cached cold. I hope you will get well soon.

First dream in the New Year
Hi, everyone!
Today was the beginning day of my kids’ school, and I could enjoy a free time after a long holidays. Unfortunately, it was a wet day today, but my kids were cheerfully going to their school. I was relieved about it.
By the way, did you have your first dream in the New Year, hatuyume? I had one, which tells me a symbolic meaning. In my dream, I was invited to Haruki Murakami’s house, where was a gorgeous residence. He freely gave me some books, which were American literatures, translated by him, and said ‘It’s a present for you, and you may come and see me any time.’ … Is this my hidden desire? Anyway, I like it.
So, I hope you also had sweet dreams in the New Year. See you tomorrow!
P.S. Plum, I always print out your comment for my check. Thank you very much each time.

Raicho Hiratuka
Hi, everyone!
Plum, I also felt easy about your condition. And then I am sorry for my mistakes on this Blog, which might give you some troubles. I will make an effort into improving my English. Anyway, I am very happy to have such golden opportunity in my life.
I have read the life story of Raicho Hiratuka, ‘Genshi, joseiwa taiyode atta,’ throughout the New Year holidays. Before I have only known about her work historically. Now I am amazed at her stormy life, strange fate, and extraordinary ability. Because of her large networks, I am also interested in her encounters with many historical persons, such as Kazuko Fukuda, or Akiko Yosano. (So, I am looking forward to read the paper about Yosano.) I recognized once again that it is really fantastic to learn about great pioneers.
I’d like to read books about women’s history as much as possible.
So, see you, good night.

You will be all right
Hi, everyone!
I’m sorry for skipping my comments. Now I have just coming back from Osaka, where my parents and brothers gathered together. All of us have really enjoyed our annual meeting.
Plum, I was also shocked and confused by your message, and I only have to pray that you will be all right in your condition. I believe and hope it from bottom of my heart. I am quietly working on my time line for essay.
I’m sorry again for my mistake. I have to learn English grammar.
So, I’ll talk to you again. See you!
