Hi, everyone!
Today I left a TV on in order to watch the Academy Award ceremony, while writing, eating, and cleaning. I didn’t watch it so intently, but I enjoyed a lot of gorgeous scene.
It was so luxurious that I have felt stuffed all day long.
And now my poor brain seems full of many English.
So, see you tomorrow. Good night!

Hi, ladies!!!
Oh, how cold it has been today!
Snowflakes started to fall down this morning. But once they hit the ground, they got transformed into rainwater. The temperature was low, but it was not low enough for them to stay snowflakes on the ground. Is this a sign of spring being near us? I hope it is.
This morning another work person came to continue the task in our bathroom. I had a plan to go out early this afternoon for a few hours, and so at around noon I asked him when he could finish his work and he said that it would take one or two more hours to get his work done. Oh, what am I supposed to do, I thought to myself. Anyway I could not cancel my plan, and so I had to leave the house keys with him when I left home. I felt quite uneasy while I was away, but what else could I have done? I had no other options…
After I came home, I looked around in the house and everything seemed to be OK, and so I felt relaxed. Oh, how optimistic I am!
My body got so stiff, because of the cold, I suppose. I will have an early night. Good night, my precious friends. Talk to you again tomorrow. Just look after yourselves and keep yourselves considerably warm since it’s getting cold tonight. A lot of love to you, my friends.
Dear Cherry and friends,
Good evening.
How did you spend this cold and rainy day?
Azalea, are your dolls kimekomi (a wooden doll fitted with Japanese costumes made from cloth whose edges are tucked into grooves cut into the wood, (Kenkyusha's New Japanese-English Dictionary))? Some years ago, a friend of mine, whose first name is the same as Sunflower's, invited some friends to her house to celebrate the Dolls' Festival. In those days, she was recovering from the loss of her husband. Several of her friends and I willingly joined the party. She showed us “her” dolls. In fact, she has a daughter of almost my age. The dolls are hers actually. You know, a woman of my age is not very interested in her dolls any more. Those were aesthetic kimekomi dolls made by her mother, K-san. K-san told us why she made it. When she gave birth to a daughter, her mother had already passed away. So her mother-in-law who was a doctor ordered the dolls for her granddaughter without asking K-san beforehand. She was told, “K-san, I ordered a set of dolls.” First, K-san was surprised to hear it and she realized she had to learn how to make kimekomi dolls. Soon she found a teacher, learned it, and meticulously completed the job. She enjoyed doing that. Therefore I said they are K-san's dolls.
Hope the sky clears up tomorrow.
Good night.
Hello, Cherry and m friends.
I'd like to talk about Kumamoto Band.
It is noteworthy that the Kumamoto band had especially contributed to educate young talented men to serve the state through the spirit of Christianity.
It was established in the early of the Meiji era, 1871. Leroy Lansing Janes came to Kumamoto to reform education.
Janes taught students to serve their nation through practical work.
Jane never taught Christianity to students for the first four years. Christianity was still recognized as evil teaching. Hence it is necessary for him to distinguish education and religion.
People could not easily utter a topic of religion in the early of 1870s. The mere mention of religion could lead to the extreme peril of life.
Furthermore his intention was to get students to consider what lay behind the scientific law and the beauty of the universe. This universe is a scene of law and order.
Every class was conducted only through English. The English was taught in the first year. Geography, history, and basic mathematics were instructed in second year. Algebra, geometry, history and surveying took up in the third year. In the fourth year were given over to philosophy, astronomy, and geology, chemistry, physiology and English literature. Jane was convinced that Christianity lay at the core of Western civilization.
Next time I'd like to write how patriotic and gifted students came to study Bible with Janes. They sought the meaning of their studying and a mission of their lives.
Good-night, my friends.
Good evening, ladies!!!
It has been another cold day today, hasn’t it?
The NHK weather report said that it snowed 12 days of this month so far in Nagoya. It seems that we have not had so many snowy days in February in Nagoya since 1984. Winter seems getting colder and colder to me. Am I the only one who feels that way?
I made changes and corrections to Cherry’s essay this afternoon. This is her third essay handed to me, and it is far better than the previous ones. I am very happy about it. She has been certainly improving her essay writing in her way. Tomorrow I will discuss her essay at my place, and I am looking forward to it.
I will work on it for a few more hours and go to bed, my precious friends. Goodnight…
Hi, everyone.
Sunflower, I don't know it exactly, but my Hina dolls are Mataro's. In Tokyo, his doll was famouse when my mother bought it to my daughter 24 years ago.
Yesterday, I went to Tokyo to visit the hosipital where my mother was taken care of. This morning, I went there again, at midday, I was at Omotesando to have lunch. I found a nice restaurant there. In very front of the Omotesando Hills crossing the street Omotesando street, the name is 'Cafe La Boheme' B1F Jubilee Plaza Bldg. 5-8-5 Jingumae Shibuya Tokyo. It is opened 7days a week from a.m. 11:30 to a.m.3:30. I ate a chiken and Caesarean Salad set. Before main dish is served, you can choose a glass of white or red wine or fresh juice, then potage soup and garlic toast is served, then main dish is served and a cup of tea or coffee.
The ambient of the restaurant was very good. How much was it? To tell the truth, I was surprised.
It was 950 yen. When I paid it, I said ' How cheap it was, is it OK?'
The manager said 'I think whether I could require this price.' How nice he was! This cafe was available for English native speakers. Staffs were very amiable.
The reason why I could not drink the wine was I would go to the library next to the parliament. I could get Yamakawa Kikue's work in the magazine 'Sun' (Taiyo) there.
Exactly speaking, I asked to send the library them later. Today was nice day for me. It is a very beautiful day in Tokyo.
By the way, when I searched for them through micro films, the right winger shouted something through a speaker. It said 'Today, The secretary of the US, Rice came to Japan.' Nothing to do with me! What a nuisance!
Good night.
Dear Cherry and friends,
Hello. How are you?
We haven't had snow in Toyohashi as far as I know. When I saw Plum write about snow last night. I was remembering that I was asked about snow just before noon yesterday. I was in the laboratory with fellow students. One of them asked me, “Wasn't it surprising? It snowed this morning.” I didn't see any snow, so I answered to him, “Not so bad” and forgot about snow. After reading Plum's comment last night, I understood why he said so. He came from Nagoya. And the weather in Nagoya is different from that in Toyohashi. Toyohashi must be warmer than Nagoya. However, I always feel Toyohashi much windier than Nagoya. Snow must be blown away before it reaches the ground.
Yesterday, we submitted copies of theses finally. We also had a seminar class. We could ask our teacher to have another class, but I heard that his wife, who lives in Tokyo, had an operation recently, and is staying at the hospital now. Under the circumstances, he often has to change schedules. Although we scheduled the seminar tomorrow, he asked us to change it to yesterday. This happened last week, too. We understood his situation and reluctantly decided to make the yesterday's class the last one. He is a good teacher.
Good night.
Good evening, ladies!!!
It has been much warmer today than yesterday. Whew!!! I really hate the cold and windy days in Nagoya. I was brought up in Kyushu, and I think I never had such heavily windy days in winter in Kyushu. I remember that I smelled of green grass, which was growing under the ground, in early February, and the smell was, sort of, full of sunshine, and teasingly pleasant and uplifting. In autumn the smell of the ground was quite earthy, but in very early spring in February it turned sunny. That is one of the big differences in nature between Kyushu and Honshu, I suppose.
This morning Cherry came to my place to talk about her essay. Her essay is getting better and better. I assume she is very happy about it and so am I. She will come again to discuss it a week today. Probably we will finish her essay next week. She did an excellent job. Good for her!!! She is an extremely patient person and I am very glad that she is so.
Talk to you again tomorrow, my friends. My husband will stay overnight at his company and so won’t come home tonight. Well, maybe I can skip supper… Good night, my precious friends. Have sweet dreams. Lots of love to you all.
Hi, everyone.
Plum, I really enjoy the book ' Essential Grammer in Use' you recommended to us. It is easy to understand even to me.
Plum, Can I say my impression upon Revolution and the rule of law.
I think it is the gist. It is not more or not less. Understanding it is that I would be required to read other books or I make myself understand it.
