Valentine's Day

Hi, everyone!

It was Valentine’s Day today. Do you know Tomo-choco? These days, young girls present chocolate things not only to their lovers, but friends. Even my kids exchanged handmade chocolate with their friends. I, too, made it for my HD. It’s a sort of ceremony, not love for me…

So, see you tomorrow, good night.

Hi, everyone

Alice, I don't know my style, but thank you for your careful observaion.

Today, I did library-crawl for the first time.

Cherry, I learnt words about Valentine 'your degree of commitment' 'in the interests of domestic harmony' What do you imagine from these words?

Plum, how many pieces of apple pie did you have?

Dear Cherry and friends,

Hi.
We also had a visitor today. She is my cousin's wife. She married into my aunt's house. Her two sons are adults and live away from home but she and her husband live with her parents-in-law. About 10 years ago, this aunt collapsed. Since then, she hasn't been able to talk or walk. Her 80-year-old husband takes care of the aunt because he insists on doing so. My mother always complains about the way he takes care of her sister. Mother tells me, “why doesn't he use money to get good care services? He always boast the amount of their pension. He has a lot of money but he doesn't know how to use it.” Such an opinion would make him angry. So we have to shut our mouths.

He is in a bad mood when his daughter-in-law isn't at home although he doesn't ask her to take care of my aunt. He is in a good mood whenever my mother pays visit to the old couple. Today, my cousin's wife had chance to escape from her duty, so we had time to have tea together for a short time. She is a cheerful person and good at getting along with people. I admire her patience. She had to stay at home long hours. She always makes clothes to divert her mind from a nuisance, that is, the father-in-law.

Good night.

Hello, everyone.

Last night I went to Kanayama to hear the Valentine concert of opera music performed by Mei Phil(Nagoya philharmonic orchestra)with my friends as it was my birthday, I treated myself. I don't know much about opera, but Ricardo Tamura who sang Toorantod(misspelling?)was marvellous.
The music is familiar to me thanks to Arakawa Shizuka. I was moved a lot by his tenor.
Kikuko Teshima was also fantastic who sang Madam Batterfly. She was a very beautiful and passionate singer.
My DH didn't give me anything and neglected my birthday as usual, but I had a good time in the concert hall.

Hi, everyone!!!
Thank you for asking me, Azalea, how many pieces of apple pie I had.
Actually, when I opened the box, the pie was already cut into four pieces. So yesterday my visitor had one and me, one. This morning I gave one to my husband and one to me, again. Thereby I had two pieces all together, one yesterday and another one today. I was very happy about it.

My visitor said that she got that apple pie “there”, and I understood which shop she was referring to. That apple pie shop is, apparently, well-known, since it appears in a number of local magazines or free papers. (But, I don’t know the name.)

A few years ago, a friend of mine and I were walking along together and, she, rather, on a sudden, said that she would like to buy something for her husband. I just looked up without any intention, and saw the shop, and thus I said, “Why don’t you get an apple pie at that shop?” Then, she got one and went home. I did not buy any for some reason. Interesting, isn’t it?

Until yesterday I had never had any chance to get an apple pie at that shop. That apple pie I had yesterday and today was excellent, not so sweet, and the custard was delightful. Of course, the apple chunks were brilliantly tasty.

Well, a little bird told me that spring was just around the corner. I really want to believe her. Talk to you again tomorrow, my lovely friends.

Hi, everyone.

Good evening.

I feel in relief. Why? Only I know the reason.

Plum, thank you for your politely returning my asking. I want to know the shop name. Does everyone think so?

Happy birthday to Magnolia.

Alice, your cousin's wife is great. I sympathize with her. Isn't your aunt certified to need nursing or caring by municipal office?

Hello, everyone.

Plum, I know that apple pie. When I went to Nittaiji Temple on its festival day of 21st as a volunteer interpreter last fall, I found the apple pie sold on the street on my way home, so I bought it as a souvenir, which was very good.
I wonder if it was from the same shop. Maybe so.

Dear Cherry,

How is your daughter?
Is she getting better?
You must have been worried about her while you were at my place.

Thank you so much for the cakes you brought for us. We enjoyed eating your cakes, both chocolate and cheese ones, after our session. We were very sorry that you could not enjoy the delicious cakes.

It is hard to learn English, isn’t it? But don’t give it up. Use your dictionaries as often as possible. Actually, learning English is, sort of, the same as memorizing what are written in your English dictionaries, isn’t it? (Of course, it is not everything you have to do, but in a way it is true, I assume.) Your English dictionaries are your best friends in learning English.

Look after yourself and your family, and study hard, very hard, because you are still young, Cherry.

Hi, everyone

Today, My alarm clock sounded at 7:10, but I could not awake, precisely saying, I could awake but I could not leave the bed until 7:40. I prepared for breakfast. It was a continental style. It sounds good, doesn't it. There were only baked pieces of French bread with butter and jam and a glass of milk on the table. Surprisingly frugal. I staffed fried bean curd seasoned with sugar and soy sauce(conviniently cooked) with rice seasoned with vinegar and sesami seeds and with boiled bottle gourd seasoned with sugar, sake and soy souce. Bottle gourd was dried, then dipped into water then cooked. It took a time. I had to leave for Plum's house at latest at 9. I could take the 9:22 train at Toyota city station. Whenever I get at Motoyama station, I wonder which entrance I have to go, No. 1 or No. 4. Today as usual, I chose a wrong entrance. At a shrine, one woman politely greeted to me, saying 'Isn't it cold?'. I replied 'Yes'. I arrrived at Plum's house. She welcomed me with a smile as usual. How lucky I was! Then, we had a beneficial time wiht her. We appreciated a cup of chocolate and a cup of espresso. They were very delicious.
Plum, thank you ver much for your hospitality.

Cherry, Thank you for your cakes. I am sorry that you could not have them. How is your daughter?
I will take a bath and sleep.

Dear Cherry and friends,

Hello. How is your family, Cherry?
Did they catch cold?

We finished thesis presentations yesterday. I was not asked difficult questions that troubled me. In terms of statistics as a discipline, lack of originality might have been a problem. I couldn't encounter any statistical findings. However, no Japanese statistician would not be interested in women's life course. No statistician has not investigated women's career transition using a relatively new statistical method called correspondence analysis. That's what I did.

After we finished the presentations, I was asked to dine out with a few students. We are all in the same year at the graduate school, but two of us are in their twenties. An adult student joined us. He and I are the same age, which relieved me a lot. This guy is very generous. He was kind enough to treat us. Although we ate much and had two glasses of beer, I paid only 1,500 yen! Women and young men are sometimes lucky. All they have to do is to stay with a bossy but generous man and listen to him sincerely.

Young guys told interesting stories. One of them had been to a meido cafe with some friends. Meido are girls wearing costumes of housemaid. They greet customers, “okaerinasai dannasama (welcome back, sir).” He confessed he could not enjoy the atmosphere very much. Another weirdo story was about sister delivery service called imouto haken. A company dispatches as sister and has her behave like your sister. If you ask her optional services such as doing laundry, you have to pay some extra amount of money. Have you heard about this? This company dispatches not only sisters but also other family members such as children. Some people really need their family.

Have a good week.
