Verb + on, off

HI, ladies!!
It is Monday, December 15, 2008, today, and has been sunny.

I’ll try a verb + on or off.

That man got into his car and drove off at high speed.
The baseball game was called off because of rain.
I dozed off while I was watching TV.
The fire alarm went off in the middle of the night.
I have a few things to finish off before lunch.
My mother paid too much for that picture she bought, and I think she was ripped off.
I was told off by my father for being late for the meeting.
He always tries to show off how smart he is.
I always try to put my husband off smoking.

We all get on really well together.
I must get on with my work.
It’s frustrating that I keep on making the same mistakes in writing English.
We drove on without stopping along the road.

…I hope all of you are getting on well, while having much work.
See you next. Bye!!

Hi, ladies!!!
It’s Monday, December 15, 2008, today, and it has been a bit chilly but the chilliness is still tolerable, and I am very happy that there is no wind blowing. As you are well aware, the place where I live is on the top of the hill, thought it is extremely low, and there is no barrier at all that prevents wind from rushing and whirling from down the hill up to this hilltop, and thus whenever we have wind we are almost shaken by it. Amazing, isn’t it? My place is called Wuthering Height, which is of course a joke.

Yesterday we had a brainstorming discussion about the essay projects of those who got together at my house. I realized that they truly had so much to say. Unfortunately we had a limited time, and so I had to tell them to get to the point, may, many times. That sounded very rude to them, but otherwise we would have had to continue our discussion into the night.

It is so sad, really, that everyone could not say what she wanted to say. Hence I told them to talk to Cherry’s blog. But I wonder they really got my message. Because not many contributors to this blog do talk about their essay projects as often as I imagine they are supposed to. Why? I always ask myself why they don’t write but try to speak a lot about their essay schemes, what’s more, in Japanese, although they are requested to write their essays in English. It is a big wonder to me. Why, why, why…

I am thinking of writing something about my own essay subject. I have been trying not to, because I simply did not want to take up more writing space than I assume I should in this blog. This blog is originally and basically a forum for you all, not for me.

I am sure that many of you believe that this blog is a very important forum for you, but maybe I could borrow this space for the practice of my essay writing. I don’t know what you think about my making use of this blog for my personal interest and benefit, but I am now thinking I will try to write about three female missionaries who came to Japan before the Pacific War and made a big contribution to the improvement of the wellbeing of Japanese Hansen’s disease patients.

It is 3 o’clock, everybody!!! It’s a tea time for me, my lovely friends. I will just grab my tea and some biscuits for my break. Bye for now…

Dear Cherry and dear my friends,

Hello. I’m always impressed by Plum.
I often feel that each person has his or her own rhythm. Some are quick and others are slow. I’m a slow person. Japanese people are generally quick. Whenever I walk in Tokyo, people walk much faster than I do. When I was 6 or 7, my mother noticed that I was slower than other kids. I ran slower, got things slower, and ate slower. In those days, we did our homework everyday and had to write down the time we spent for it. One day, the teacher commented on my notebook, “Your time was too long.” Although I thought I had overcome my slowness, I recently feel that I’m slow especially when I read English. The more I read, the more difficult it is to skip complicated part and leave vague understanding.
I know it takes too long to finish the book, “Essays on Sex Equality.” Like tasting English, I really enjoy reading Harriet’s article, “Enfranchisement of Women” which is fascinating and persuasively powerful.
