A vinegar

Hello, friends!

Alice and Cosmos, thank you for your story about a vinegar.
They say that taste and ingredients help giving us a good appetite,
especially in hot summer.
Plum liquor may be nice, too.
In other days, a cooking expert came to my kids' school and gave a lecture.
He said a good wife must serve a vinegared dish for her husband every day.
In order to survive Nagoya's hot summer, I will take a lot of "sunomono."

Alice, I felt thankful for your encouragement.
I like "where there's a will, there's a way."
I'll try to keep going.

Sunflower, I was impressed by the life of Hatsu-san.
There are many women's history I didn't know.
We are allowed more freedom now than in old days.
But I was just wondering about my uncomfortableness.
I'd like to learn feminism so that I can feel comfortable and powerful feelings in my mind.

So, good bye, friends.

Hi, everybody!
Nagoya is famous for its uncomfortable muggy hot weather. Only breathing make me exhausted under such circumstance. Vinegar has sterilizing power and braces ourselves up. So it is a good way to take vinegar everyday. Another nice food is UNAGI, which is a powerful resource of energy in summer. Last night I ate out UNAGI because I’d like to escape from preparing supper. Fortunately all my family loves it and they are happy to have it. Let’s save our energy by having UNAGI!
Plum, thank you for a nice long letter, depicting your everyday life at your daughter. I am sorry Mr. and Mrs. Kondo can’t meet their coming grandchild! To tell the truth, their behavior is a little bit humorous but lovable. Soon you’ll meet your another grandchild!

Hi, everyone!!!
Is everything alright for you?

(My daughter’s baby has not come out yet… What happened to him, I really don’t know.)

I am very interested in Cherry’s statements:

Feminism is quite an interesting subject to study, and there are a number of different methods of getting into it, such as the analysis of literal works, socio-politics, women’s biographies.

It is a kind of sociological or philosophical ideology, and there are several distinctive theories, but they all discuss the suppression of women, inequality, women's roles and lives and so on, in human society, from the point of gender politics, power relations and sexuality.

If you want to know basics, I highly recommend you to investigate different feminist theories such as radical, Marxist, and liberal feminism.

I wrote about Marxist feminism in English several years ago, and if you want to read it, I would be very happy to send it to you by email after I get back to Nagoya in September.

You can also learn something about various feminist approaches from articles on the web. Nonetheless it might be extremely difficult to apprehend different theories at first, although it is worth attempting.

Below is a passage from Different Types of Feminist Theories on http://www.colostate.edu/Depts/Speech/rccs/theory84.htm.

Feminism ideology can take many different forms. In the 1970's, women started developing a theory which helped to explain their oppression. Pockets of resistance began to organize and challenge patriarchy. By the 1980's, however, feminists started disagreeing on particular issues linked to feminism. What was once one theory, began to branch out into many theories that focused on different feminist issues. Today, there are as many definitions of feminism as there are feminists. Each definition of feminism depends on a number of factors including ones own beliefs, history and culture.

It is probably most important to look into patriarchy. Below is also from the article, and it is very interesting to know.

Patriarchy is the system which oppresses women through its social, economic and political institutions. Throughout history men have had greater power in both the public and private spheres. To maintain this power, men have created boundaries and obstacles for women, thus making it harder for women to hold power. There is an unequal access to power. Patriarchy also includes the oppression of minorities and homosexuals.

For beginners, perhaps, radical and Marxist feminism is intriguing to examine.

Just let me know if you want to read my writing about Marxist feminist theory.

Some of the students who have finished their feminism course say that they feel uneasy and more dilemma after studying feminist theory, because the feminist issues they face become clearer than before and they are, sort of, forced to realize there are still too may unsolved gender problems in reality. They also discover how powerless women, especially married women, are.

The empowerment of Japanese women is most needed, and you are strongly encouraged to study feminism, Cherry.

Goodnight, Cherry. I really wish you best of luck in your current interest in feminism.

Hi, Cherry and friends.
I tried again and again to send a comment, but in vain so far. This time I sent it in the way Cosmos told me. I hope this will reach you.
As for vinegar, I made 'Shiso sour' because I grow Shiso a lot now. This drink is good for health and allergy as well and tasty. Why don't you try it? It's easy to make. the ingredients are over 500 gram of Shiso, 500 gram of sugar and 900 ml of vinegar. That's all. Put Shiso, sugar and vinegar in a jar and after 2 weeks take the Shiso leaves away, and you can drink it by watering 5 or 6 times as you like. See ya!
