"The desparate housewives"

Hi, everyone!

Yesterday at Nagoya, it was 39.4 degrees...I don't know how high it is today,
but even tatami room in my house is just like a sauna.

Do you know the TV drama "The desparate housewives"?
When I read Cosmos's comment, I just remembered it.
(I loved this drama.)
One of 4 heroines became an alcoholic,
and reluctantly joined to an association of patients.
Though they were involved some severe situations, those scenes always made me laugh.
I don't know why, but on TV they seemed funny.
Moreover, they also liked go to their therapist.

I can't recommend "therapy session" to everyone, but I think I just had a lucky chance with good and skillful therapist.

Since I came to Nagoya, I had many encounters with great people.

Most important one is with Plum and all of you in this group.

Thank you very much...

So, see you, friends!

Hello,
I knew here by chance.
I appreciate that I can
talk to you.
Anyway, I recommend you
watch TV more critically.
As you know, all broadcastings
target their viewers for the
commercial purpose.
Do you read any newspaper?
I'd like to recommend you
read Asahi Newspaper.
My English skill is not
that strong. Please
let me know if you find
any error in my sentense.

Dear friends
How torrid it is in Nagoya! I hate the scorching sun the most, though I was born in such hottest season. Actually today is my birthday (I dare not to say how old I have become. But I know you can guess it easily.) I should have asked to my mother what weather it was when I was born. I was born in China which is a big continent where the climatic change is very different from an insular climate one. I have heard that SANKANSHION (four warm days after three cold days) is known as a distinctive feature of the climate there. I was very vulnerable to heat, so I suspect I might be born on a cool day.
Alice, thank you for giving us information about May-sensei. I think she is very frank friendly person and has a power to open minds of others. I love her cheerful live talking style, too. I am sorry for reporting you that I got a mail from May-sensei, who apologized she could not come to our Aichi-seminar because she was too late to see the invitation from me. And she added that she is suffering from menopausal disorder. I must contact her soon. Alice thank you for reminding it tome.

Dear Cosmos,

Happy birthday!!!
Is today your birthday, really?

Today, I was not going to put a comment here. I had a plan to write to Phyllis, my American friend.
Today is her birthday, too.
What a coincidence!
She became 74.

I wonder how was the political situation in China around the time your mother gave birth to you. Japanese people suffered a lot, didn't they? My former English teacher who introduced me of Plum's tutorial was only 5 years old when the war ended. She remembers the hardship she had to bear. She and her family were refugees. Her story ached my heart. It was not an experience a 5-year-old should go through. I guess your sisters had the similar experience and still remember it.

Sorry, this is not a topic to bring up on one's birthday.

Have a great year, Cosmos!

Hi, everyone!!!

Happy birthday to you, Cosmos.
I know you are growing younger and getting more and more spirited and energetic. I am not so spirited and energetic as you, but I would like to follow you as much as possible. Someday, when we are really old, maybe we sit down together at some quiet place, and recall we have done together like writing in Cherry’s English Blog. We will talk about this and that, and laugh and smile to each other. But it will be many, many years away.

Cherry, thank you for telling us about Desperate Housewives. It is one of my favorite US TV series, and it is aired in Australia now. Also all the series are available on DVD, and we can buy them at Amazon.com, I haven’t bought them, though. I bought Rosemary & Thyme (UK series, 1,2 &3) on DVD for quite reasonable prices, which are about hilarious and fantastic two women detective-gardeners. I also like A Touch of Frost (UK TV series, available on DVD), Inspector Morse (UK TV series, available on DVD), and Midsomer Murders (UK TV series, available on DVD) which is currently aired in Sydney.

When I was extremely depressed soon after I came back to Japan following about ten years of stay in English speaking countries, New Zealand and Australia, I watched almost all the CD series of Sherlock Holms originally produced by Sir A. C. Doyle and Poirot by Agatha Christy. I borrowed them from libraries and I watched one or two episodes each day. At that time I think I lived only to watch these dramas, which gave me enormous power and excitement and passion to live with (maybe too much exaggeration???) like strong vitamin complex tablets for serious stress.

Among the four housewives in Desperate Housewives, which one do you think most fantastic? And why, Cherry?

I suppose Bree is fantastic, because she is a perfect housewife, at least she believes so, and she works as hard as possible, but she suffers various problems normal perfect housewives do not go through. She is terrific and gives us a lot of laugh.

Also Lynette is quite funny, but rather I think the actress who plays her is fantastic. She is really good, and her play is worth a lot of acting awards.

It is Saturday today, and Yoji is at home, and so I have some time to do what I want to do, which is good.

I will stop writing now, because it is noon, and it’s better to cook something for lunch, but I will come back to you a few hours later.

Until then, bye, my dear friends.

Hi, everyone!!!
Hello, again.

I just want to talk to you more about modifiers. As you know very well that I eat cereal for breakfast, and I try to buy different boxes so that I can compare package messages.

After I made some comparisons, I come to the realization that words are something you buy, or, we pay money for words. Of course, we pay what we read in newspapers, novels or poetry. But cereal, too.

Cereal is juts cereal but nothing else. Cereal is hard to sell, because it looks just a mixture of everything, which is not attractive or pretty-looking. Also there are a number of brands, and competition is not easy, but you have to sell your cereal anyhow.

When you sell your cereal, you would say, “This is cereal good for you”, which is the most possible simple phrase you could use, but it is not good enough. (Normally, in the cereal market, nutrition composition is similar to each other.) So you would think hard about how to sell, sell more cereal than all the other cereal brands, and realize the importance of words, and ask a professional arranger of words. Of course, photos, pictures and other visual information are also essential, but without words, you cannot sell your products.

Then, Kellogg’s says:

Our delicious Honey Almond cereal is special because it is a delicious and tasty combination of light crispy flakes kissed with a touch of honey and a sprinkling of almond slices.

This only means that Honey Almond is a combination of flakes and almond slices, doesn’t it?

Now we know how to expand our meaning Is it easy or difficult? Fun or boring? Worth trying or not so worth trying?

Probably if you go to a how to write course in English speaking countries, this kind of lesson is the one you will have in the beginning.

Nonetheless, if you can create this type of writing we have seen above, you can earn money, can’t you? since we are paying for this writing, which is part of each cereal package for sale.

Do you think this Kellogg’s writing is convincing enough or just a boring package message?

I will talk to you later again, I hope.
Bye, now, my dear friends.

Hi, everyone.

You are expected not to forget 'THE LOST WORLD'.

Today, I went to 'ADERA'S 7 CASCADES'. It is located at Adera in Houraicho, Aichi prefecture. From the parking area to the falls, you can walk without threatening sunlight bothering you.(I apologize for my rudeness to the sun.) Along the way, a stream (river) runs. The water is transparent. I brought biscuits to feed fish. As soon as I throw them in the water, numerous small fish were scrambling for the fragments of biscuits. It is swift. Floating fragments disappeared in a wink.
Climbing the steps, you can approach the cascades. Breeze with minus ion caresses your cheek. It makes your breath fresh.

Hi, Cherry, Alice, Magnolia, and Sunflower.

How are you doing? Is everything OK?

I’d like you to read an article about Mary Wollstonecraft (27 April 1759 - 10 Sept 1797), one of the most important feminists in modern England, which you can find on the Internet.
Please copy and paste the following site in your search box, and click, and you can get the article. It is very interesting and does not take a long time to finish reading it.

http://www.cwrl.utexas.edu/~ulrich/RHE309/vicfembios
/marywollstonecraft.htm

She is the mother of Mary Shelley who wrote the novel Frankenstein (1818).

Hope you enjoy reading it, and if possible, please let me know your impression of the article.

Buy, now. I will talk to you again tomorrow. Actually I am going see Hitomi san in the city in the afternoon.
