The 13th anniversary

HI, everyone!

Today is the 13th anniversary of the Hanshin Great Earthquake. Do you prepare the equipment for emergency? I only make a stock of drinking water and emergency toilet. It was 13 years ago when I knew that they are most important for us to survive.

I feel very sad at the thought that we have to stand every hardship in our life. For example, I can’t, no, I don’t want to imagine the grief of people who has lost her/his family on 9.11 attack…

So, I’ll talk to you tomorrow, good bye!

Hello, Cherry and my dear friends.

I remembered the big Hanshin Earthquake which happened 13 years ago.

These are what I read about “State Shinto” in the Chrysanthemum and the Sword.

The Meiji government established State Shinto as “the symbols of national unity and superiority”.
The government established State Shinto to venerate the Emperor. The Emperor was respected as
a “ruler from ages eternal” (万世一系の統治者).
State Shinto is supported and regulated by the State. It is no religion; so it does not violate the freedom of religion because the freedom of religion was left to individual.

One of the great factors that Christianity was not so popular in Japan might lie that Christianity and State Shinto are incompatible with each other.

“The Christianity places God above emperors. It pledges obedience and devotion to God, the highest virtue. It regards emperors as men of like passions and sins and weaknesses as other men.

I've been struggling to write the history of Christianity.

Hi, everyone!!!
How are you doing?
It is Friday, January 18, 2008, and it is cold but the sun is shining.
The sunlight coming through the glass doors into my lounge is so fascinating and enchanting. Sometimes I just look up and enjoy viewing the sunlit lounge. It may sound funny to you, but I do like my lounge so much, especially when it is warmed up by mild weather like that of today. (In fact, the lounge is air-conditioned, and if not, the room is starkly cold.)

I have read the essay on Yosano Akiko. Have you read it? Probably you will get the impression that she was an exceptionally strong-willed and resourceful human being. She is superb, isn’t she?

Talk to you again tomorrow, my sweet friends.
