Today was the beginning day of my kids’ school, and I could enjoy a free time after a long holidays. Unfortunately, it was a wet day today, but my kids were cheerfully going to their school. I was relieved about it.
By the way, did you have your first dream in the New Year, hatuyume? I had one, which tells me a symbolic meaning. In my dream, I was invited to Haruki Murakami’s house, where was a gorgeous residence. He freely gave me some books, which were American literatures, translated by him, and said ‘It’s a present for you, and you may come and see me any time.’ … Is this my hidden desire? Anyway, I like it.
So, I hope you also had sweet dreams in the New Year. See you tomorrow!

My first dream of this year is treasure hunting.
Some friends said to me, “let's hunt for treasure together.”
It sounds nice, doesn't it?
Yesterday, I went to the library and BOOK-OFF to find the book “Web jidai wo yuku.” Yes, I remember you said it was the best book of year 2007. I couldn't find one, so I borrowed another book written by Mr. Umeda. It's a bit old, but the content hasn't become obsolete yet. The title is “Web shinkaron.” So far, the most impressive words from the book were “we can improve our intelligence by “Blog”-ging. That's why I came back here again tonight to train my brain. That's true. This is like jogging. We can train our brain muscle.
I had lunch with some of my friends yesterday. One of them is my ex co-worker. He has a sister who is a CEO of an IT venture. I found her name, Ms. Ishiguro, on Nikkei some years ago. She has been chosen as Nikkei Woman of the Year once or maybe twice. I saw her once. Her brother and a friend of mine married. I was invited to their wedding ceremony held in Tokyo. I was a matchmaker. They owe me a lot because they met a nice partner each other.
Just before meeting them yesterday, I went to the library and looked for Mr. Umeda's book. On the very same book shelf, I found a book whose title was very similar to his. It was “Web wo shinka saseru hitotachi” which listed 15 influential people in the IT world. Ms. Ishiguro is one of them. Needless to say, we talked about the book over lunch.
By the way, today I bought a new “Web jidai wo yuku.” I'll read it tonight.

I’ve been thinking over one question. Why hasn't Christianity spread among Japanese people despite of an earnest evangelical preaching by a numerous of missionaries?
One of the reasons might be that Japanese have eight million gods around them. In New Year days average persons visit shrines to pray for the happiness and health of all family members. Students and their parents visit a shrine and pray for success in an entrance examination. When one is going to build a house, a Shinto priest is invited to have a ceremony to purify a building site. The prays and ceremonies are to be thought as a kind of seasonal events and not directly related with one’s religious belief.
Maud Powlas lamented that Christianity seems to be just another altar set up beside the Shinto and Buddhist altars.
She often got a glimpse of a Kami-dana and a Budtudan, a Shinto and Buddhist altar sitting side by side.
She concluded that Japanese seems to have a mass of ignorance and superstition that had piled up through thousands of years.
I agree with her.
We must be superstitous people without knowing it.

Probably, “Today is the first day …” would be better. But normally we would say in English,
Our kids went back to school today.
It is easier, isn’t it?
Probably, “I could enjoy some free time after the long holiday” would be better, I think.
Probably, “…my kids cheerfully went to school” would be better, I think.

Perhaps, I sweat because of a fever from catching a cold at that time.
Strangely, my apetite was and is invinceble.
Don't you think our Japanese had been isolated since the Yayoi era?
Don't you think we Japanese evolved or have evolved uniquely?
Don't you think our Japanese are mutant or variety or deviant?
Using only one scale, it is difficult to explain a matter.

The reason why Christianity is not so much believed in Japan….I think it is because Christianity is a worship of monotheism, which is not easy to accept for us Japanese. For Western people, nature is something they conquer. For us it is to be harmonized. I happen to hear a reason of conversion. He said it is easier to communicate with English speaking people. I remember his reply surprised me. It is late at night. I must stop here.
