Hi, everyone!
Today, I went shopping to Gifu city with my family. We walked around a vast shopping mall, which was rather crowded with shoppers. There were so many shops that I couldn’t choose my favorite clothes. We only got some daily goods for kids and had lunch at a Chinese restaurant. Then we went to Gifu-jo, lifting its head on kinkazan. When we arrived there, the ropeway to carry sightseers up to the top of the mountain already ended. So, we just looked up at Gifu-jo from the foot of the mountain, and left for home.
On the way home, I found interesting information on my guidebook of Gifu. It is said that there is a statue of Taisuke Itagaki at Gifu-koen in memory of being attacked by his enemy. I gradually recalled that happening because I have read it on the book ‘warawano hanseigai,’ an autobiography of Hideko Fukuda, the pioneer of women’s liberation movement in Meiji-era. I was surprised that I happened to know it by chance. Unfortunately, I had no time to see that statue this time, but I’d like to come some day. While I read several books about women’s history for my essay, I became feeling interesting with modern Japanese history. It’s fantastic.
Peach, I watched the movie ‘Maiko haaaan!’ at that night, and liked it.
So, see you tomorrow. Good night!

Dear Cherry and friends,
Good morning!
Last week, I went to see the movie called, “the Namesake.”
This novel is written by my favorite writer whose name is Jhumpa Lahiri.
I didn't read this book, but I was interested in it.
Its Japanese title is, “sononani chinande.”
The name it implies is Gogol, a Russian writer.
The story is about a boy named Gogol.
Gogol's parents came from Bengal. They moved to the U.S.
Gogol was born and grew up in the US,
but because of his parents, he lived between two cultures.
The movie tries to show us his feeling, love, and dilemma.
It's a neatly created American immigrant literature of our time.
Have a good day.
Hi, everyone!!!
It is cold, freezing cold, isn’t it?
Well, it is Monday, January 14, 2008, today. It is a national holiday called Coming-of-age Day.
I had a terrible, horrible, disgusting and upsetting experience on Friday night after I got home from Tokie san’s place. I found both of our toilets clogged. Not just one, but two. It was already dark, and can you imagine how panicky I got?
I got a plumber’s phone number from the phone book, and I was told he would rush to my house as quickly as possible, but would not reach until one house later. It was a long, very long one hour.
He came at last, and he fixed one of the toilets. Just one, can you imagine? He said that he could not fix the other one, because he did not have a part, which he said was needed to fix the toilet.
Then, he suggested that we should replace our toilets with new ones, since they were quite old, and finally he showed me the price for new toilets, which was 540,000 yen. He said that I had to put down a deposit, and so I paid 10,000 yen.
It was a relief that we could use one toilet after such a hectic negotiation with the plumber. My husband was not home yet, and anyway I had an early night and went to bed.
On Saturday morning, I woke up at around 5. Yes, it was dark, because morning did not break yet. I shook my husband awake and we went out to check all the drainages in our property. Yes, we found two of them blocked with piled up paper. Now, my husband got rid of the entire “blockage” and solved the clogging problem.
On Sunday I got the money back the plumber owed me, and, of course, we could cancel the order for two new toilets. Is that one of those things? Maybe, so, maybe, not so… Life is hard, isn’t it? But I am happy that is gone. That is behind me. I just keep going.
I will talk to you again tomorrow, my sweet friends. Bye for now.
Hello, friends.
Plum, how lucky you have a handy and helpful husband. You didn't have to waste money.
In my case I can't depend on my DH because he is neither handy nor kind. So I always have to waste money to ask a repairman to come. I missed my son. He was always reliable and helpful when strange things happened. I envy his wife, too.
Hi, everyone
Cherry, you had a nice time with your family in Gifu. I like Gifu castle. As you saw it yesterday, 360degree panorama is seen. I feel as if I were a guard in the Warring State period. Could you see a squirrel?
Plum, I sympathize with you on how helpless you felt during waiting for the plumber. However, your husband is much more reliable than the professional.
