October 27

Hi, ladies!!
It is Monday, October 27, 2008, today, and has been a good weather for the first time in the last few days. But I feel as if it’s still in late summer because of such a high temperature.

Well, I’ll write this after a break.

Hello, again, everyone.

Recently I've tried to read some new articles for my next essay after a long interval, since I had extremely concentrated on the hard work for my STEP test. Now I guess I failed the test, but anyway it’s finally ended! I am now reading a book about the socialism association heiminsha, that Syusui Kotoku and other socialists organized to express their anti-war idea in 1903.

This book describes mainly women activists in heiminsha, who have a variety of their backgrounds. One of them is Sugako Kanno, who executed at the Treason Incident in 1911. While sometimes contributing articles to their newspapers, those women played an active part in kitchen work in the association, because of legally prohibition on women’s political joining at that time.

Notably, most of them were wives or lovers of male activists in heiminsha, whether it came to before or after their entering the association. Under such a harsh political environment, it seems reasonable.

To be continued. See you next. Bye for now!

Dear Cherry,

It is so good to see your name on this page.
I am so sorry to hear that you failed the recent STEP test. You worked hard for this test and I believe that you almost passed it. Please do not be disappointed, because you have another chance.

Thank you for letting us know about the book you are reading at the moment for your essay preparation. Your essay is due at the end of February but time flies so fast as you know very well, and thus make a good plan for your essay writing and try to follow it.

I will not be in Japan the second half of January and most of February because I have to go to Sydney to babysit my grandson and will not be able to help you as much as I did with your first essay. If you have any questions, please ask the senior members, Sunflower, Cosmos and others, and I hope they will back up and support you and other junior members so that you junior members will be able to complete your essays for submission.

To tell you the truth, I am a bit worried about my going away leaving your essay writing to yourselves. But you have some experience now, and so I pray everything will go perfect without me.

Again I am sorry about your failure in the test. Keep working and you will make it next time.

Lots of love,

Plum

Dear Cherry and friends,

Hello. Cherry, you’re only guessing the result from your self-evaluation, aren’t you? I will wait for the result officially delivered to you.

Plum, Vicky’s writing is so neat and right that it shows her character as diligent and well-organized. Do you think her English is not as good as ours? In my case, I don’t think so. Mine is way worse than hers. Or her writing skill may be your power of instruction.

What is the next topic from the book about Victorian pioneer women written by Pratt? It’s about associations for girls. The first association is the Young Women’s Christian Association (Y. W. C. A.) established by Lady Emily Kinnaird, which later became a worldwide organization.
The predecessor of the Y. W. C. A. was the North London Home opened in 1855, where young women afforded to pay for board could stay. The first general secretary of its international body was Miss Annie Reynolds who came from the United States. The headquarters were in London.
Pratt writes, “Japanese girls who have visited Great Britain or America for the purpose of education have, it seems, been greatly impressed by what they have seen of the Y. W. C. A.,” and therefore, Miss Reynolds corresponded with them about the plan to build a branch office in Japan whose members would “consist entirely of Japanese girls and women.” (p. 224)

Good night.
Have a good dream.
