Hi, everyone!
Magnolia, it is fantastic that you are enjoying aquabics. I had no idea with noodles. Is this a kind of rope?
Cosmos, I definitely made a mistake in a pre-war life in China. As you mentioned, we have some incorrect information about our neighborhood. Recently, it is said that several movies about the Nanking Massacre, which make us feel awfully miserable, will be released in the near future. I feel I have to watch them. My lamented grandfather used to say that Japanese military commit many crimes in China at wartime, but never said beyond that. I wish I had asked him about it.
This year, there are many consecutive holidays, aren’t there? My family is going to visit Takayama and Okuhida tomorrow, Shirakawago and Gujo-hachiman the day after tomorrow. It’s a little greedy plan, isn’t it??? I hope all of them will be go well. So, I’m sorry that I will skip tomorrow’s writing.
See you later, dear friends, have a nice holiday!!

HI, everyone.
Cherry, I don't think it is a greedy plan but it's a little busy.
Have a nice trip.
Magnolia, neither did I. What is noodles? Would you explain it in detail? My imagination is poor. Noodles remind me of something dispersing.
In Autumn, mushrooms get delicious. Do you know the reason. If you know, would you tell me?
Two weeks ago, in my yard, I found a fungus. It looked delicious. However, I don't know whether it was edible or not. I don't want to suffer from food poisoning.
In my yard, there are many leek all the year. It is eatable but the smell indigenous to the plant is weak. I can't use them for cook. what a shame! I don't know why the vegetation does not smell. Fertilizer is more needed? Tell me.
Dear Cherry and friends,
I guess I know noodles. It is a cylindrical styroform of human size, isn't it? In my understanding, it is “a” noodle because you can count, “one, two, three.” Am I wrong, Magnolia? Before I went to Canada, one of my friends asked me to bring one as a souvenir. She was just kidding.
Cosmos, thank you for telling us the interesting facts about China and its people. Come to think of it, I didn't study about the relationships between Japan and other Asian nations very much. When I first read Morimura Seiichi's “Devil's Engorgement,” I was shocked to know I didn't know anything about the wars which Japan fought. Have you heard about the story? This book is about the Japanese military laboratory which conducted human testing. It's a controvertial story, because not many people know the fact and most evidence was destructed. Like many other Japanese people, I don't like to believe such a cruel part of history.
But many people don't know the fact that Japan annexed Korea or occupied China. Even if I was one of those people, now I feel it's too ignorant for a Japanese to say why some Asian people hate us and they sometimes riot against the Japanese government, ignoring such facts.
Plum, I hope you can find a functional and lovely cooktop which perfectly suits your kitchen. I would love to see it when I visit you next time. Can I? Your kitchen will look like a picture out of cool magazines.
Cherry, have a good and safe trip to Hida. I'll wait for your next update.
Tomorrow, each student have to give a presentation in front of teachers.
It makes me nervous.
I'll tell you about it tomorrow.
Have a good weekend, everybody.
Magnolia, I found a picture of pool noodles on the web. It seems impossible to float with one noodle. You used some noodles, didn't you?
Sorry for my shallow idea.
Hello, everyone.
Thank you for having your interest in noodles. It is difficult to explain about it, but I'll try.
As Alice said, it is about 1 meter long cylinder of styrofoam and its diameter is about 8 centimeter. So I use two noodles when I stretch myself on them. One is around my neck and the other is under my leg, making a loop and I have to hold the joints, floating. When I have a partner, one can pull the other and in turn we can travel in the pool, zigzagging. I like that very much, but I can do it only when the pool isn't crowded. So if the students are few in the pool, the instructor lets us do such an exercise. It's a rare chance.
Could you get it?
Hi, everyone.
Today, I climbed the Iwakoya mountain located in Shitara cho. It is 799 meters high. The climbing course is located in the Tokai natural walkway. It takes one hour to the top of the mountain about 1.6 km. Approaching the top, there are rock places. In some places ropes are available along the way. In one rock, some places are chiseled as foot steps.
Sometimes the walkway is narrow and both sides are cliff. You might feel something of fear? But you can see beautiful panorama at the same time. Especially, you are enchanted with the beauty of the Mt. Myoujin which is apparently the most beautiful mountain in Aichi prefecture.
After reaching the top, our real adventure began. From the top, the way is called 'healthy foot course'. You feel heavy sensation in the knees.
We walked to the Kurakake mountain along the ridge. However, it takes long time and I found the considerable amount of manure on the way. It was once possessed by a bear or a boa? So we changed the course, we aimed at Arao village. This course is perhaps not so often used. The way is near beasts road. The road suddenly disappeared. We almost trip over the logs and stones some times. A snake was politely waiting for us. My husband welcomed it with a stone. I was bewildered. Luckily, we could find the original way.
On the way, we found a big cage.
We are convinced in this area a boa and a bear are living.
We were relieved with a house of the people. We finally got to the village.
The Arao village was very quiet. We could not easily find people. At last one persone was working, we asked him how to get to our parking place. His wife appeared. They kindly told the way. It is about 2 km from there. On the way, we found the remain of mole. Between Arao village and our parking place in Waichi, you can appreciate the ink paintaing like scene, it reminds us of Yamadera in Yamagata prefecute.
2 hours later, my daughter will come.
Hi, everyone???
How is everything going with you? Me? Not so good and no so bad, just a usual Saturday.
I cooked French toast for breakfast and sprinkled Vanillin Sugar on top of it, and that French toast was really good and yummy. When I met Hitomi san at a French café in Sydney, I first ordered French toast on the menu, but I was told that they did not make it on weekends. How strange, but it was the way they did, and so, instead of French toast, I got French omelet, which was not bad at all. But after that I wanted to have French toast, and this morning I did it. It was just a simple thing, but I was extremely happy about it.
This afternoon a cooktop agent came around to my house, and checked my present cooktop and gas pipes, and he said that it was possible for him to get a Gaggenau cooktop for me, and so it was good. He also pointed out that water was leaking, though it was not so clearly visible, from the kitchen tap, and thus I decided to get him to replace it with a new one.
This afternoon I wrote a lot of reply emails to my friends. Emails from my friends piled up in my email box, since I really did not have time to sit down and write something. But now, almost all the work has been finished, and I can really do something. My sister has not called me since the day after I came back from Osaka, and so, in a way, I am relieved. She should be OK by now. If anything happens, she will definitely call me, and I just let her have some time for herself.
It was a beautiful autumn day, wasn’t it? When I got a call from my daughter in Sydney, I said so and she said that so was it in Sydney, although it is spring now out there.
I hope you had a great time on the first Saturday in October. I will talk to you again tomorrow, my precious friends. Bye for now.
Good evening, my dearest friends.
Azalea, I was laughing in spite of myself when I read your question about noodles in pool to Magnolia. You asked if it was edible!! Impossible! I often go to pool and know the colorful styrene-foam-tool for amusement and relaxation in water, so I had no confusion about the Magnolia’s comment. I really enjoyed Azalea’s question and Alice’s answer. Thank you. By the way, the styrene-foam stuffed in a box in order to protect fragile articles is called “spaghetti”. Once I had read the sentence saying “We will carefully wrap the frozen lobsters with spaghetti”. A chef of nice restaurant in my neighborhood, who is a brother of my friend, couldn’t understand when he got the note through fax from Australian trade connection. It is also funny, isn’t it? Well, the restaurant serves very nice Southern Europe food. Why don’t you go there together someday?
Cherry, please enjoy nice trip with your husband and kids. Now is the best season for an outing. Everybody, please have nice holidays! See you again, bye!
Dear Cherry and friends,
Hi. How are you?
I'm fine.
Cosmos, have I been to the restaurant with you?
I would love to go there with you some day.
We've finished interim presentation this afternoon.
It consists of 10-13 minute presentation and 7 minute discussion.
A bell rings 3 times during a presentation.
They used a pc software to do it.
A software for presentation.
It's convenient, isn't it?
I think everybody did it ok.
Teachers didn't ask me severe questions, but gave me some advice for further study.
They are kind.
So I was relieved.
Other students talked difficult statistical theories.
Some were excellent. Unfortunately, I couldn't understand them very well.
I can tell the excellence from how teacher admired them.
Mine sounded easier.
It was not admired but they say the topic was interesting. How nice for them to say that!
I am analyzing women's life course using a certain statistical method.
The method itself is not very difficult.
I am not satisfied with the results I have obtained so far,
because I haven't reached significant results.
All I could get is a different version of the M-shaped curve.
But anyways, my teacher said to me,
"It's ok because this is an interim presentation.”
I know. I know. There is still so much I need to do.
I said to myself in my heart.
Talk to you later.
Hi, everyone!!!
How have you been spending this long weekend so far?
I visited one of my relatives who lives now in a senior citizens’ home. She is only 71 years old, and she is as old as Nogiwa Yoko, yes, that beautiful and elegant TV personality. She was hospitalized for two months last year, and became completely well and fine, but did not want to go back to her place in Kita-ku. She is single, and has never been married, and she does not want to live alone, and so my husband found this home and took her here. She seems to be quite happy, living comfortably and pleasantly in this home, and has become friends with other elderly inhabitants.
The working staff I met today was quite cheerful and friendly, and so it is a, sort of, perfect living environment for her. But she was extremely thin. She weighed only 32 kilograms. I just wondered whether she had been eating, or rather been fed, properly. She said that she was eating OK, and there was no problem or complaint about this home, she added. (My husband stepped on the scale, which showed that he weighed 122 kilograms. What a difference!!! He should reduce his weight difinetely.)
Anyway I had a great time with this relative of mine and my husband, just chatting with them about trivial matters in the lounge of the home, though.
It is getting late, and I am a bit tired. I will go to bed right away. I will talk to you again tomorrow, my precious friends. Goodnight.
Hi, everyone.
It's so nice to know everyone is enjoying the autumn days; traveling, mountain climbing, sports, studies and eating. My husband likes Frenchtoast, too.
I sometimes cook it, but I don't have any confidence in making it.
Plum mentioned Vanillin Sugar. I'd like to buy it. Can I get it in Meiji-ya or Matsuzakaya Store?
One of my friends suffers from cancer, too. She is as old as I.
About 10 years ago she got an operation and got rid of her stomach. A month ago, she was announced that her conditions is not good. Cancer is very sad disease. I cannot find anywords for her.
I read about one coin English lesson. Next time if I have a chance, I'd like to go. What kind of movie is used?
Good night, everyone
Hi, Peach!!!
Thank you for getting interested in Vanillin Sugar. The one I am using is a MasterFoods Vanillin Sugar, and, perhaps, this type of sugar is widely known as vanilla sugar, and Meijiya might have one on sale. It seems likely that it is made quite easily at our own kictchen, though I have never tried to make it. Put “vanilla sugar” and then click Search, and you will get a recipe. Vanilla sugar is especially good for French toast.
I also have McCormic Cinnamon Sugar, which is quite handy for plain toast with some butter on it. Sprinkle on top of it, and you can get yum-yum cinnamon sugar toast. You may find it at Meijiya also. Try that!!!
I got both of them at Coles in Sydney, and they were quite cheap. If you want, I can get you either of them, or both, for you, when I go to Sydney next time.
